Discover Apulia and Basilicata
Day 1: Welcome activities and walk in the historic town of Ruvo di Puglia followed by dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight stay at Casa Rubis (Ruvo di Puglia).
Day 2: Breakfast and departure for Polignano a Mare, a beautiful town in the province of Bari, which stretches towards the Adriatic Sea from a coast carved by those same waters. With its grouping of white houses and its past that boasts Greek origins, Polignano attracts numerous tourists who are fascinated by this enchanting place that seems to be a painting. After the visit of Polignano a Mare, we’ll reach Egnazia where we will have a guided tour of the archaeological park home to the necropolis, amphitheater and cryptoporticus. Lunch will be served in a typical Apulian restaurant. We’ll return to Ruvo di Puglia in the afternoon. Dinner to be arranged by the participants. Overnight stay at Casa Rubis.
Day 3: Breakfast and departure for Otranto, natural bridge between East and West and crossroads of peoples. We’ll have a guided tour of the Romanesque Cathedral which houses the largest mosaic in the world that almost entirely covers the floor of the largest church in Puglia. Lunch we’ll be served in a typical Apulian restaurant. In the afternoon we’ll depart for Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme part of the heel of Italy; visit to the Sanctuary of Leuca known as “de Finibus Terrae”, built on the site where once stood the temple of Minerva which was destroyed at the arrival of St. Peter’s. We’ll return to Ruvo di Puglia in the late afternoon. Dinner to be arranged by the participants. Overnight stay at Casa Rubis.
Day 4: Breakfast in the structure and departure for the tour of Ruvo di Puglia, an ancient town surrounded by a fragrant expanse of olive groves and vineyards, famous for the fascinating architecture of the Romanesque cathedral and for the historical and artistic value of the Museo Jatta. Lunch to be arranged by the participants. In the afternoon, transfer to Castel del Monte for a visit to the mysterious octagonal building, wanted by Federico II, now declared a UNESCO heritage. Dinner to be arranged by the participants and overnight at Casa Rubis.
Day 5: Breakfast and departure for visiting the city of Taranto. Visit to the Cathedral dedicated to S. Cataldo, with a Baroque facade and a Byzantine dome. After the visit, walk along the promenade from which you can admire the enchanting view of the natural harbor of the city, with the canal that connects the “Small Sea” with the “Big Sea.” Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon visit of Metaponto, the archaeological park, the Tavole Palatine and the museum that preserves numerous finds from the Greek period. We’ll return to Ruvo di Puglia in the late afternoon. Dinner to be arranged by the participants. Overnight stay at Casa Rubis.
Day 6: Breakfast and departure for Matera, the city famous all over the world for the Sassi, caves carved in natural rock. The visit to the Sassi is extremely fascinating as we’ll find ourselves in a timeless place, with the facades of the Sassi, white and white alleyways carved into the rock. Lunch will be served in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon relaxing time in Matera. We’ll return to Ruvo di Puglia in the late afternoon. Dinner to be arranged by the participants. Overnight stay at Casa Rubis.
Day 7: Breakfast and end of tour.
