Easter in Apulia – Special tour
1st day: Participants arrival in Apulia, hotel accommodation. In the first evening it’s possible to do a walking tour in the historic center of Andria. In the evening return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
2nd day: In the first morning h. 3.00 am departure for Ruvo di Puglia to see Easter ritual known as procession of “Otto Santi” a paper mache sculpture that represent the transport of Christ to the tomb.
In the morning return to hotel, breakfast and free time. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon departure for Noicattaro, a little town in the territory of Bari, to see Easter ritual called “La Processione dei Crociferi” where the participants dressed in traditional black costumes and carry a heavy cross. This is an unusual and particular ritual which is held in the streets of old town. In the evening return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
3rd day: Breakfast in hotel; in the morning departure for Barletta, visit of the old town famous since the time of the Normans. At 12:00 am start a particular procession called “Processione di Penitenza”, with a religious atmosphere. Lunch at restaurant. In the afternoon departure for Ruvo di Puglia to see Easter ritual known as procession of “Processione dei Misteri”. This procession is the longest of the town and it is composed of seven statues that represent the passion of Christ. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
4th day: Breakfast in hotel; in the morning departure for the guide visit of castle “Castel del Monte”, the mysterious octagonal manor, heritage of UNESCO; at the end of visit, transfer to Canosa di Puglia, lunch at restaurant and after free time to see Easter ritual known as procession of “La Desolata”. This procession is characterize of a frame formed by a group of kids dressed as angels and a group of woman dressed in black clothes with their face covered.
In the evening return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
5th day: Breakfast in hotel and departure for Ruvo di Puglia. Holy Week celebrations end with Easter Sunday, when the merry parade of “Cristo Risorto”, showing Jesus resurrected, starts from S. Domenico church. During the parade the “Quarantana” is set off, as a propitiatory rite. “Quarantanas are dummies looking like old women wearing a black dress. It is the victory of life over death. Lunch at restaurant and transfer at the airport. Tour end.
